True Beauty

So Saturday was prom day!!! I got to be a fun big sister and take Kati all around to get her hair and make-up done! It was an awesome day to say the least. One of the best things was getting to see some of the girls I had gotten to know all dressed up. They all looked gorgeous of course!

It got me thinking though. These girls (or rather their parents) spent hundreds of dollars and a whole day trying to make themselves look as beautiful as possible. And they looked amazing, but what was more incredible to me was how the inner beauty of these girls just radiated!! I looked at my sister and didn’t see how beautiful her eyes looked with all that make-up or how tan and slim she looked in her dress, I saw a young woman after God’s own heart who I had watched the day before comfort another girl who was crying at school even though most people wouldn’t even talk to her. When I looked at my cousin, I didn’t notice how beautiful her hair looked as much as I remembered how strong in the Lord she had been over the past year, as her faith had been tested more than I could imagine. I felt as if God gave me a small glimpse of his amazing glory in these girls that he created in his own image (Gen 1:27). That day, I felt as if I saw them a little more like God does, completely beautiful and perfect in him.

It reminded me of the verse another amazing woman of God wrote when she signed my yearbook back in school. “All beautiful you are, my darling; there is NO flaw in you!” Song of Songs 4:7 These girls had been so excited about this day, about looking perfect. Most of them have been working on their tans, attempting to lose weight, and clearing up their skin for months. The amazing thing is, these girls were already flawless in God’s eyes. He doesn’t see our crooked teeth or frizzy hair. He sees us for who we are in him! This brought another verse to mind, “The King is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your Lord!” Psalm 45:11

Sometimes it is just good to remember that we don’t have to be insecure in our appearance. We don’t have to judge ourselves based on the world’s standards. The KING OF THE UNIVERSE is enthralled with YOUR beauty….HONOR HIM in everything you do!
